When Charlie Duke proposed to her, Dottie told him, “I’m going to put you first in my life. Will you put me first in your life?” He said he would. “I was excited for him when he began training to go to the moon,” Dottie said, “but inside I was thinking, ‘When he gets this goal behind him, he’ll put me first.’ But he didn’t. So I began to look for other things to fulfill me. I tried a career. I tried church work. I even tried drugs. Nothing worked. Since I’d tried everything else, I decided to look to God for fulfillment. Then God took away my depression, healed our marriage and satisfied my deepest hunger for meaning and purpose in life.”
