Not many high profile restaurant corporations would entrust four struggling franchises to a high school biology teacher with no experience in the industry, but that is exactly what McDonalds did with Jerry Caven. After turning these restaurants around, Jerry wanted to purchase more. But McDonalds told Jerry to wait, so he decided to start his own restaurant line: the Royal Fork Buffet. He opened forty-eight restaurants, sold them then opened twenty-four more. Jerry is also a real estate developer. One of his holdings is the 100,000-acre Half Moon Ranch, where Jerry raises 1,000 cattle. He credits following the concepts in the Bible for making him successful in every way. Jerry and Muriel spend their time volunteering overseas and at home and Jerry puts as much effort into this sort of work as his profit-driven enterprises.
